Upland Design Group (UDG) was chartered as a Tennessee Professional Corporation in the Spring of 1977. The firm was the first architecturarl firm in Crossville and was among the earliest firms in the Upper Cumberland area. Early projects included local churches, banks and schools in and around Cumberland and adjacent Counties. As the firm steadily grew from the original four employees to the twelve of today, our market area expanded North/South to the Tennessee borders and East/West toward the larger markets. All the while, UDG brought the rural conservative perspective of our hometown communities to our quality professional services for a variety of community infastructure projects. In the early 80's the practice emerged as a leader in Tennessee school design.
The staff of UDG has consistently grown and our staff turnover is much lower than industry standard. Derrick Clemow A.I.A. has been a part of the growth since incorporation and has been a key principal over the last 34 years. In 1990 Kim Chamberlin A.I.A. LEED AP BD+C joined the firm and became a key principal. Brian Templeton A.I.A LEED AP BD+C joined the firm in 2002 and is the newest principal. With the addition of Scott Nicholson P.E. in 2006, UDG added Civil Engineering to expanded our in house services. Most recently, Allen Hill LEED AP BD+C has been elevated to Associate to round out the leadership staff. Today UDG has six registered architects and one professional engineer.
Over 33 years of experience in the profession has lead to over 800 completed projects and each one has had a role in the successful identity and reputation we have today.
