VEC is one of the largest rural electric cooperatives in the nation. UDG has had the good fortune of being part of their growth serving as Architect on five Service Centers and their Headquarters Building. This partnership has spanned 25 years and was most recently continued on the Dispatch Control Center Addition in Decatur which opened in June of 2009.

The Dispatch Control Center is a 6,400 square foot addition to the VEC Headquarters Building in Decatur that UDG had designed in 1995. The program for the addition included a 1,675 square foot tiered control room designed around state of the art video and communication equipment and furniture, an open office call center, and support spaces. The control room and call center spaces are used to manage and oversee VEC's 9,000 miles of power lines in 17 Tennessee Counties. The addition's structural and shell design was enhanced to resist impact during storm and natural disasters. The interior spaces feature high ceilings with suspended indirect lighting which reduce issues with glare on the many computer and LCD screens throughout. The exterior of the addition fits in with the look of the existing building. A separate entrance with a vehicular drop off canopy was incorporated into the design along with an exterior patio equipped with fixed tables and seating.
