Sequatchie County has all their schools in one centralized location. When crowding reached a critical point and there was no more room for additions, the School Board decided to create an Intermediate School. They acquired a site adjacent to their current school and prepared this site for their new school. The Intermediate School, which is designed but has not begun construction, houses grades 3 through 5 each with their own wing centered around core functions.

Integral to the design is the placement and orientation of the building. The building is placed on the site to both allow flow of traffic (both buses and cars) and to optimize daylighting. Clerestory windows are used to bring natural light into the corridors of the building. On the south elevations, sunscreens block direct light and solar heat gain while allowing indirect light to penetrate further into the spaces. Other "green" design features include a hybrid geothermal heat pump system, artificial lighting control sensors, reflective roofing and an increased thermal envelope to reduce heat loss/transfer.

Grant funds are in place and construction is planned in the near future.
