Campbell County had a unique site to work with when constructing their addition to their new jail. Wanting to stay near their existing courthouse limited the locations and configurations the new addition could take. Surrounding sites had either unsuitable soils or excessive water. It was decided to create the new addition on a suitable piece of land across a small side street and then connect to the existing courthouse with a protected, enclosed walkway. This walkway would require the rerouting of traffic on the small side street, but it allowed for easy access by police officers needing to use the vehicle sallyport built into the new addition. A second story observation room allows a minimum number of guards to observe all the cell blocks while remaining safe.
