This new facility provided 60,000 square feet of new lecture halls, labs, classrooms and offices on Roane State's existing Oak Ridge campus. The new building worked with the site and existing building to enhance the campus and alleviate overcrowding. The building was able to utilize an east/west orientation to rely heavily on proven sustainable design principles through extensive use of daylighting in addition to a geothermal HVAC system. Focusing on the health sciences, this building contains a pharmacy lab, nursing lab, surgical tech lab, massage lab, occupational therapy labs, science labs and associated classroom and office spaces. Fulfilling a campus need, two large lecture room are located closest to the existing building to allow use by both buildings. A large flex lab can be configured for job training by local tech and health care companies with flexible room layout, power and water supplies. This innovative space will allow companies with the latest technology to quickly and easily equip Roane State's students with the most up-to-date and practical training available in the area. The Goff Health Sciences and Technology Building was awarded LEED Silver certification for new construction.
